CBNK: From 20% to 70%+ Security Coverage in Three Years
CBNK, formed by the merger of Banco Caminos and Bancofar, needed a security partner that could bring a fragmented Microsoft 365 environment up to enterprise-grade protection without slowing down the bank’s day-to-day operations. INNOVATE took on that challenge, managing CBNK’s Microsoft 365 E5 security stack, Defender, Purview and Sentinel, through our SOC.
The challenge
Coming out of a merger, CBNK’s security posture reflected two previously separate organizations: inconsistent configurations, uneven visibility across identity, endpoints and data, and a Secure Score well below where a regulated financial institution needs to be. CBNK needed a single, accountable partner to unify and raise that baseline, quickly and without disrupting the business.
The solution
INNOVATE managed the transition end to end across the core Microsoft 365 E5 security workloads:
- Microsoft Defender, for unified threat protection across identity, endpoints and email
- Microsoft Purview, for data classification, protection and compliance
- Microsoft Sentinel, for centralized detection and response through INNOVATE’s SOC
The full transition, from initial assessment to a fully operational, SOC-managed environment, was completed in under six weeks.
The results
Three years into the engagement, CBNK’s security coverage across its Microsoft 365 environment grew from roughly 20% to more than 70%, with Secure Score improving over 20 percentage points on the way to a target above 80%, all while keeping day-to-day banking operations running without interruption.
